INTRODUCTION
The fresh air of globalization and advancements in Telecom
technology are changing the rules of business all over
the world. Information Technology (IT) is proving to
be a great facilitator. Leave alone business enterprises;
even the governments and NGOs have been changing their
organizational strategies, structures and systems.
In India, Government of Gujarat (GoG) and Ahmedabad
Management Association (AMA) are setting an example
of unique partnership in the name of 'GoG-AMA Centre
for International Trade'(GACIT). It is an initiative
to strengthen efforts for speeding the process of making
India a global player with highly competent entrepreneurs,
industrialists and executives and management professionals.
The Post Graduate Diploma in International Business
Management (PGD-IBM) is a flagship Program among the
wide spectrum of academic programs and management development
activities at AMA.
PROGRAM
OBJECTIVES
The PGDIBM aims at preparing qualified and skilled global
business professionals, thereby strengthening the Country's
effort for promoting international business.
Specific Objectives
1. Developing a cadre of management professionals equipped
with conceptual, technical and behavioral knowledge,
skills and mindset in global business systems &
practices.
2. Professionalizing management structures and systems
of Indian business organizations to cope up with challenges
of global business.
3. Contributing towards making India a vibrant hub for
global business & industries.

The
PGD IBM is designed for (a) graduates aspiring for career
in international business, (b) exporters and export
houses, (c) entrepreneurs who want to enter global markets
with their products/services, (d) working professionals
who want to add value to their professional profile
and; (e) government officials from commissionerates/departments
engaged in handling of international business issues
in government administration. NGOs dealing with international
development/financial agencies and academicians involved
in teaching or research in international aspects of
business or management will also find the Program useful.
PROGRAM
FRAMEWORK
(A) Program Highlights

Diploma Title: Post Graduate Diploma In International
Business Management (PGD IBM)

Duration: 18 months.

32 courses covering 90 credits.

5 academic terms and practical exposure & training
for 2 months.

3 terms in 1st year and 2 terms in 2nd year.

Summer training at the end of the 1st year.

International visit as a voluntary feature with focused
agenda and additional cost.

Comprehensive project work equivalent to 2 courses
in 2nd year.

Specialization offered in 2 areas viz. (a) International
Finance, (b) International Marketing & Logistics.
Each area will offer 4 specialized courses. Each elective
course will have project component of 1.5 credits.

Duration and Timings: The formal class room sessions
will be conducted between 8.30 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. Participants
will be expected to spend their time on project work
or classroom preparations; in Library or computer
lab during the afternoon hours.

ADMISSION
CRITERIA AND PROCESS
(A)
Eligibility criteria
1. The Program will be open for graduate degree holders
from any discipline.
2. This is a national level Program and therefore graduates
from any medium of instruction and any university situated
in India will be eligible to apply.
3. The applicants must hold final degree with a minimum
of 50% marks.
4. There will not be any age limit in considering a
candidate for admission.
5. Sponsored applicants will also be considered provided
they fulfill all the criteria of eligibility and performance.
Medium of instructio n
will be English and therefore proficiency in written
and spoken English will form one of the criteria for
admissions.
(B)
Mode of Selection
Admissions will be offered on the basis of performance
at (a) under graduate level studies,
(b) graduation degree and subsequent studies, (c) achievements
in extra curriculum activities,
(d) work experience and (e) written admission test and
personal interviews. A written examination will be conducted
to test aptitude of the applicants in areas of English,
Mathematics, General Awareness and Logical Reasoning.
Candidates who have appeared in CAT or MET examinations
will be required to state their score along with supportive
evidence.
FACULTY
AMA has a vast pool of core and visiting faculty drawn
from renowned management institutions, professions and
industries. Over and above the existing pool of talent,
AMA will also have special panel of more focused experts
from local and national industry and business schools,
export oriented industries, export houses and concerned
government departments. Executives from international
development organizations, financial institutions and
regulatory bodies will also be invited.
PEDAGOGY
Case
studies and group assignments will be used as major
tools of teaching. Heavy emphasis will be put on project
work and presentations. Visits to suitable organizations
will be a unique feature of pedagogy in PGD-IBM.
EVALUATION
SYSTEM
Students will be assigned grades for each subject. At
the end of a term, cumulative grades will be decided
for the term. Similarly a Cumulative Grade Point Average
(CGPA) will be given at the end of the Program.
ACADEMIC
AND PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
AMA Complex consists of a world-class set of classrooms,
library, auditorium, committee rooms and administrative
block. A canteen provides normal refreshments and business
lunches on Campus. Some of the relevant details of academic
infrastructure are given below.
(A) Library
AMA maintains the state-of-the-art fully computerized
library. The Library is equipped with huge collection
of books, journals, magazines, newspapers, audio &
video, computers, CDs etc.
American Corner (AC), a joint initiative of AMA and
US Consulate is a unique resource center for information
on the USA. AC is a way of making available information
regarding business opportunities, educational services
and socio-political information about the USA.
(B) Computer Laboratory
AMA maintains the state-of-the-art computer lab. The
Lab is equipped with large number of computers with
up-to-date and hi-tech hardware, softwares and peripherals.
All the systems are configured with Internet facility
that help students as well as Faculty keep updated with
global changes and requirements. The Lab has been growing
with increasing number of systems every year.
(C) Class Rooms
Well-designed 12 classrooms provide sufficient room
for fresh air and space that create healthy environment
for learning. A transparent glass wall on one side of
each classroom connects students with the greenery and
scenic beauty outside. This also symbolizes the spirit
of openness and transparency in teaching-learning process.
The entire AMA Complex is centrally air-conditioned
and classrooms are equipped with audio and LCD projection
facilities.
FEES
Entire course fee is Rs.95000 that is payable
in three installments. Rs. 35,000 at the time of joining
the program, Rs 30,000 after completion of first two
terms and Rs 30,000 in the beginning of 5th trimester.
The fees should be paid by Cheque/DD favoring ‘Ahmedabad
Management Association’. The fee covers cost of
tuition fees, exam fees and books/study materials provided
to students and fees for library/computer lab.
CERTIFICATE
Upon successful completion of all the academic requirements,
students will be awarded Post Graduate Diploma in International
Business Management (PGD–IBM) by GoG-AMA Centre
for International Trade, Ahmedabad Management Association.

In addition to unlimited global business opportunities
for entrepreneurs, the emerging business environment
offers tremendous employment opportunities to professionally
qualified International Business Managers. Such institutions
include companies having global operations, export houses,
small & medium sized companies having intention
to enter international markets and government departments/agencies
handling global issues. Management institutes and research

a suitable professional support and coordination arrangement
will be provided.
HOSTEL
FACILITIES
The Program will be conducted on non-residential basis.
Outstation participants will have to make their own
arrangements for boarding and lodging. However, AMA
will help them in finding residential accommodation.
The pantry on AMA Campus has the facility to provide
lunch at reasonable rates decided from time-to-time.

AMA
Introduction: Ahmedabad Management
Association (AMA) is a non-profit society and a charitable
trust; founded by the Father of Space Science in India,
Dr. Vikram Sarabhai; with a view to promoting exchange
of ideas, knowledge and experience in the principles
& practice of management. It is a voluntary organization

About
GoG–AMA Centre
With
a view to provide a regular forum of activities in International
Trade education, training and research studies, the
Ahmedabad Management Association and the Government
of Gujarat jointly promoted the GoG-AMA Centre for International
Trade at the Ahmedabad Management Association.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Narendra
Modi inaugurated the Centre on February 11, 2004. The
objective of this Centre is to provide education and
training in International Trade to people of Gujarat
through various forum and activities.
The Centre focuses on the following activities: i) Development
of trade support services,
ii) Trade information, iii) Human resource development,
iv) Needs assessment and programme design for trade
promotion, v) International Taxation and Legal Aspects,
vi) Creating awareness and understanding the impact
and implications of WTO, vii) Build a library of trade
related books and research papers including WTO / IPR,
viii) Conduct training programmes, conferences and seminars
on matters related to international trade, and ix) Support
research in the field of international trade with special
focus on products and services of interest to Gujarat.
